Frequently Asked Questions

How do I obtain an application?

Applications are available from the BOB web site.

How and when will I know that I have been selected for training?
We will assess applications as we receive them. As soon as your application is processed you will be informed of the result.

If selected for training, when will you send me the data about my training session?

By June 2007 you will receive an e-mail about the organisation of your training session.

When will I know if I have been chosen to work at Games-time?
You will receive notification as soon as is possible after the individual interviews at the end of the BTP sessions every month. We will endeavour to inform candidates within one month from the date of your interview. If you are not offered a position, you will be allowed to train for another position.

How many days will I work at Games-time?
Your time as part of our broadcast crew will be determined by the venue and the sport and will usually last from one week to one month. Be aware that we transmit seven days a week during Games-time.

How many hours will I have to work each day during the Olympics?
You may be required to work as many as 10 – 14 hour days.

Can I choose the venue at which I would like to work?
No, you will be assigned a location according to production needs.

Am I guaranteed a position if I am chosen to participate in the Broadcast Training Programme?
No, you are not guaranteed a position. To be employed, you must also have a successful interview. While BOB expects that most students will have an opportunity to work during the Games, those who are not hired will have gained valuable experience and will have broadened their opportunities on graduation.

Can I still participate in the programme if I graduate before the 2008 Olympic Games begin?
June 2008 graduates may apply for a position. Those graduating before this date are ineligible.

Can I train for more than one position at the same time?

No, you may train for only one position at a time. If you are not successful after your first workshop, you could be asked to complete a second workshop and be interviewed for another position.

Would I be labelled as a ‘student’ during the production?
You will look like professional broadcasters at the games. Our goal is that you will be prepared to a level of a professional, not a student.

During Games-time, am I required to wear a uniform?
Yes, you are required to wear the uniform that is provided to all broadcast personnel.

How much would I get paid?
The pay will be at an entry level professional rate.

How will BOB communicate with me?
Most communication will be via email so you must check your e-mail at least once a week. We request that you give us your mobile telephone number in order that we can contact you immediately if the need should arise.

How soon will I know the venue that I will be working in?
It may be difficult to give you your tentative venue assignment before June of 2008. Even then it could be changed before or during the Games.

Will BOB contact me if there are changes in the programme?
Yes, general announcements, as well as specific announcements relevant to specific positions, will be sent by e-mail. At the same time, it is important that you are up to date and regularly check announcements on this site to see whether changes have been made to the programme.

Do I need access to the internet/e-mail to participate in this programme?
Yes, you need to be able to access the Internet and have an e-mail address to check programme updates and position details. If you do not have your own Internet connection, use a school or public library.
